The Chiefs offense had their fair share of big plays in this year’s Super Bowl. Though the offense struggled most of the first half, the Chiefs turned it on when it counted in the 2nd half. In typical Chiefs fashion, it was a complete team effort to dig them back. Rice, Kelce, Watson, and Hardman all had crucial plays. They were able to dial into what the 49ers’ defense was throwing at them and made the right adjustments to ultimately win the game.

Gun Fake 18 Keep Post Corner - Drag Return

The Chiefs’ first big play was off a bootleg throwback. They fake gun wide zone, with the center pulling late, and the tight end sealing the end to help give Mahomes the extra time.

Before the double moves the play looks like boot.

The play initially looks like a typical keeper with a 3-level flood. Hardman sells the corner route, and Kelce sells the drag. (Pictured above)

Hardman breaks on a post and Kelce breaks back on a deep out. With Pacheco check releasing, the Chiefs have created a 3-level Flood opposite of Mahomes’ rollout.

The 49ers Safety, Gipson sees that Hardman has beat the corner and comes off Kelce to help with the deep route. This leaves Kelce wide open, but Mahomes still threads the ball into Hardman.
