our core play is what the nfl guys (generally the shanahan tree) "zorro cat". wide zone with a "zorro" combo on the emol

-out of pistol or under center, condensed "snug" formation (our base formation), split off ball TEs will zorro combo the emol, one coming in fast motion across the formation protecting the inside of the combo for the playside off ball te, they combo the emol to the cb. pswr cracks the 2nd level defender inside the cb.

- we have some varations of it out of spread formations where the slot WR in motion gets the ball in "jet sweep" fashion and the other slot and set to the playside (gun) blocking the emol, and out of unbalanced singlewing, and qb wide zone with the hb and playside off ball y combo-ing the emol

When you say you adjust on the fly with no panicking, and you're not guessing on what plays to call....how do you know counter vs. PA vs. PA Boot? Is it just what you are best at, or are you looking at different defenders that lead you into the next call?

Our trips (spread trips) version is a sort of tunnel screen to the #1 wr strong. We are not very formationally diverse (snug condensed, spread 2x2, spread 3x1, and unbalanced sw condensed are our 4 formations). We want our kids more comfortable in our formations than the defense, and we are trying to make everything look the same. We tend to get very regulated def looks, not a whole lot of variation with these formations

Vs MFO/cov 4 we leave the ps Saf unblocked and try to make him stop it, and if he does take shots over the top of him which puts a lot of stress on him

We also leave bs 5t or wider unblocked unless he crashes hard across the face of the bst. We just tell him to “gain” and we get an extra hat ps (usually picking up the bslb/will). BSWR climbs at a hard angle for the near high Saf. Our primary compliment is power strong with the motion f as the kick. Our big constraints off it are counter weak (with arrow rpo bs by the fast motion f), boot/keeper of zorro action and play pass off zorro action (y bluffs the zorro to the flat and pswr runs post, bswr runs shallow or cross, and “heat”)

Yes. But we have found we can also use some 11p as long as the pswr and zorro combo trail (“f”) are very physical. We will also run it out of 11 (gun near) with the give to “f” and the hb blocking the trail in the zorro combo. I’d say that version tends to cutback more often. We don’t have the ball carrier (hb in pistol, qb or f in gun) read a gap at a time os in (what we used to do with trad wz). We just tell him to take the perimeter unless the Emol plays hard to take the perimeter away, then we widen him and the back cuts inside it. He just reads that block and it seems way less complicated for the back for hs. We tell our OL to “capture the box” (minus the emol). If there is no overhang we dbl target the PSLB w/the OL and pswr. We usually end up with very very (almost gap scheme) angles on our ps combos. The other wrinkle that helps us is we never ask our pst to reach a 5t if there is a “2 Look” (2 def on the ball os of the pst). He can choose to reach him if he wants to (he makes a call he will reach him and everyone else adjusts) or if he isnt confident he can secure os hat placement he can make another call that basically turns it into a pin and pull/crack toss scheme (pst or psg and oc pull, vs odd it’s both guards usually). Oc is more of an “if pull” depending on the alignment of the mike LB
